Appearance and its Evolution

“Fashion has always reflected the world’s evolution”

The Evolution of Personal Appearance

OK, let’s talk about appearance and its evolution.

Too many (yes, I am looking at you) think it is only essential for celebrities, influencers, and billionaires.

At first, during the Ice Age, people covered their bodies for practical reasons: the temperature they were freezing their b@%& off!

Soon after, they realised it was too hard and uncomfortable; the animal’s skin had to be softened, so they used bones.

Then, practicality became a priority because going hunting, wrapped in one piece, was not exactly practical for bringing dinner for the family. So they started creating pants, tunics, jackets, etc.

As time went by, differences in income became more and more apparent, and clothing was the best way to show, ‘Hey dude, I am a lot richer than you; therefore, I’m wearing noble materials while you scratch yourself in your cheap cotton and burlap crap”.

From ancient Greece to ancient Rome, from Cleopatra to the Kings of France, Fashion, clothing, and appearance were far more than covering up with fabrics. Their provenance determined one’s social status and how refined and sophisticated one was.

Fashion has always reflected the world’s evolution. From ancient civilisations to modern-day fashion, clothing has been used to show cultural identity, social status, and political views.

Talking about the kings of France, depending on how your wig was styled, people could identify if you were a bourgeois (wannabes, you know, the ones driving the rental expensive convertible sports cars, blasting their music so everybody notices them before they go back home and eat potatoes), a noble (The one who can actually afford the sports car) or the king and queen (Move over, that’s my throne B#*@ch!).

I will not bore you with history lessons; I’m here to show you how evolution is part of our daily lives, including clothing, fashion and appearance. People’s choices were to express a style, a social status or a mindset. For instance, the punk movement in the 70s featured shaven heads, Mohawks, and tartan fabrics. It was not a fluke but a careful decision, a form of rebellion against mainstream society; without speaking, they told the streets: F%@#k you!

YOU
inspired me to write this piece.

Let’s talk about you. Don’t look so surprised. You inspired me to write this piece.

Example: What do pictures do? When you look at photos of yourself, you know precisely the time, the place, and the event by what you’re wearing, your hair, or your accessories. (Yes, when you did wear that sweater, oh and that hair, my Gaaaaaawd, you walked out in the street like that)

This is evolution right there. This simple example shows how everything keeps changing; who you are now is not who you were last year, five years, or ten years ago. Whether you got married, divorced, changed jobs, or opened your own business, Things are different today than they were some time ago.

Your appearance reminds you and others of how well you tell your story. Your attention to detail helps you transmit the message you want people to understand when you walk into the room. How you convey your message is crucial—that precious nanosecond impression you will never be able to redo.

Just like in antiquity and ancient times, your image describes who you are without speaking, your level of sophistication silently, your attention to detail and your success level without a word.

As you evolve, so does your appearance. Every morning, keep yourself in check. You need to be mindful of your goals, your emotions, and how you want the world to understand who you are today. Align all those pieces together so you can create prosperity.

Before leaving your house, take one long look in that mirror to ensure this is how you’ll tell everyone who you are.
If that hair says ten years ago, run to your hairstylist. If that dress is too tight? Sista’, it was your body from before. If those glasses are screaming Once upon a time, jump on them and run to your optician to buy a new pair that says, ‘I am current, I know my Brand.

Appearance is not for others; it is for you every single day. Appearance says everything about you. It conveys trust (or not), allows you to do business (or not), and allows you to go on a second date (or not).

Do you want to crush it every day? It’s time to assess who you are right here, right now. Take the time and no more excuses. What are you waiting for? Yes, I mean right now!
